Per-crew medical insurance arranged through CrewDoctor — three coverage areas (Worldwide, Europe, or USA & Caribbean), all with emergency medical evacuation included and access to leading specialists for serious cases. Designed to slot into yacht employment, MLC 2006 obligations, and the realities of life on board.
You pay for the cover the yacht actually uses. A Med-only programme doesn’t need Worldwide rates; a yacht spending the season in Florida and the Caribbean doesn’t need Europe-only cover.
Cover anywhere the yacht goes, including transatlantic, transpacific, and remote cruising. The most flexible tier — no geographic restrictions other than standard sanctioned-country exclusions.
For yachts based in the Mediterranean or Northern European cruising grounds — France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Monaco, Malta, and the UK. Lower premium than Worldwide.
For yachts spending the season in Florida, the US East Coast, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean basin. Built specifically for the US healthcare system — including the Florida provider network we coordinate through.
Coverage area can be upgraded mid-policy if the yacht’s programme changes — tell us when the cruising plan shifts and we re-rate the cover.
The three tiers differ on geography, but the underlying cover and service model are the same: a real medical-management capability backing the insurance, not a card and a phone number that goes to a call centre.
Air ambulance and EMS dispatch included within the tier’s coverage area — activated through one number, coordinated through our contracted operator network. No separate subscription needed.
For serious cases, we coordinate access to leading specialists in the patient’s coverage area — the same calibre of physicians, surgeons, and clinical teams used by demanding private-pay patients. You don’t get fobbed off to whoever’s available.
Hospital admissions, day surgery, outpatient consultations, diagnostics, and prescribed medications — the standard medical cover you’d expect.
Counselling, psychiatry, and inpatient mental-health admission where clinically required — an area many crew medical plans skimp on.
Add-on modules for routine and emergency dental, plus vision exams and corrective lenses.
Onward transport home for ongoing care — in line with MLC 2006 obligations on shipowners for crew repatriation.
For crew on rotation (typically 2-on / 2-off or similar), cover can be configured for on-rotation periods only or full-year — whichever fits your contract structure. Permanent residence country is captured for repatriation routing.
For full-time crew, full-year cover on the chosen geographic tier. Stays in force through annual leave, shore-based training, and yard periods.
Tell us crew count, ages, the cruising programme, and any disclosed pre-existing conditions. We come back with quotes per tier.
Underwriting completed by the insurance carrier we’re placing the cover with. Policy documents issued in the crew member’s name (or yacht’s name for group policies).
Cover starts on the agreed effective date. Crew member receives ID details and the 24/7 number for claims, medevac, and specialist access.
Add or remove crew through the year, upgrade coverage area if cruising plans change, or add modules — without re-underwriting the whole programme.
Pre-existing conditions are disclosed at quote stage and either covered, covered with specific terms, or excluded — and you know which before the policy starts. No retroactive disputes about whether something was disclosed.
Standard age-banded pricing (typically up to 65 with extensions on case-by-case basis above). Premium changes at band boundaries.
Disclosed at application. Treated transparently: included, included with specific terms, or excluded with a reason. Your call whether to proceed.
Cover does not apply in sanctioned territories at the time of incident (currently includes Russia, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba — verify at policy issue).
Standard policy exclusions apply (e.g., professional racing, extreme sports). Activities specific to crew work are covered.
Send us the headcount, ages, and which tier(s) you’d like quoted. We’ll come back with per-crew pricing, the policy wording, and the activation timeline.
Crew medical insurance is arranged by CrewDoctor through licensed insurance intermediaries and underwriters authorized in the relevant jurisdictions. Cover, terms, and exclusions are governed by the policy wording issued by the underwriting insurer. CrewDoctor is not the underwriter of the insurance unless explicitly stated in the policy documents. References to specialists, physicians, and clinical capability describe the access offered through the policy’s provider network — not a guarantee of any specific clinician’s availability. All medical decisions are made by the treating clinician.
